Tell us about finding your wedding dress. I had a hard time finding a wedding dress that had all the elements I was looking for. My mother-in-law and my mother actually found the dress while shopping together in Austin (without me). Needless to say I was skeptical until I saw it in person. I immediately fell in love the lace scallops on the bottom of the dress. They were so unique and fitting for our country wedding, but I HATED the top. We ended up taking it to a dress maker who remade the top, added the deep V in the back, and the cap sleeves. The dress maker also made the veil and pearl “oak leaves” it attached to and a matching broach that held the champagne ribbon around my waist in place. On the broach was my grandmother’s honey-bee pin she wore everyday of her life. It was special to have her close to me that day.
Describe your wedding flowers and the colors you chose….and why! Since our wedding was taking place on the first day of fall, but it was still going to feel like the middle of summer, we wanted to incorporate some fall elements, while keeping the colors more summery. We ended up with the corals and the light greens which kept it fresh while having acorns and other elements that made the flowers uniquely fall.
What were your favorite details? I loved our giant flowered cross that hung above the ceremony site and the pews in the first few rows. As Wes’s grandfather said, it brought all of the tradition of a church wedding to the majesty of the outdoors. Since this is a man who HATES weddings outside of church, I called this a win.
What part of your wedding was DIY? My mother does custom invitations, so it was a family effort to cut, stuff, stamp, etc all of the invitations.
Did you decide to do a “first look”? Why or why not? No, there are not too many surprises in life and I wanted to have this one.
Did your write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite part? No. But I did correct the minister when he said “wife” instead of “husband”.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day? Ceremony, first dance, and my maid of honor and her boyfriend catching the bouquet/garter respectively. They’re engaged now.
What song did you choose for the first dance? Was it meaningful or just a favorite? Our friend, James Vives wrote a song for us called “Hill Country Nights”. He played it for our first song with a Violin accompaniment that was just beautiful!
What was the funniest moment of your wedding day?
The flower girl’s faces when I caught them licking icing off the cake and then there faces when I copied them. So cute and since I told the baker I wanted a cake that looked so yummy you wanted to stick your finger in it, very appropriate.
What do you look forward to the most about marriage?
Sharing my life with my husband and raising a family together.
