Cat and Ryder’s backyard (well actually front yard) wedding was an absolute blast. Such a fun group of friends and family that all pitched in to make this day special and full of life.
A few words from the bride…
Describe your wedding flowers and the colors you chose….and why!
I’m a flowerholic so this was one of my favorite parts about the wedding! My colors were oranges, yellow and natural greens so all of the flowers just came together very organically. The only thing I knew I wanted was wildflowers and pincushions, the flower Ryder always gets me A) because they are unique and beautiful (much like myself :) ) and B) because they last FOREVER! Seriously last over two weeks! From the wildflower arrangements (made by my family and the bridesmaids), to the boutonnieres (made by new sister in law Jacquelyn Jeanes :) ) to the bouquets, everything was just so naturally chic!
What part of your wedding was DIY?
The topo chico glasses and arrangements in them were definitely DIY. Fun in the kitchen with glasscutters and boiling water, a memorable family affair. My mom and the grandkids cut the flowers on the highway the morning before the wedding…all the while the grandkids asking, “Nana, is this illegal?” (My mother’s wildflower “habits” are well known to the rest of us and now to all the grandkids)
Did you have any traditions or special events that were a part of your wedding?
One thing I was really happy that we did was the remembrance table. In traditional military receptions they have an empty table and chair reserved for lost or fallen soldiers and this was our take on that. Our table had photos and mementos of some very special people in our lives that were no longer with us including my grandfather, grandmother, Mimi – my step grandmother, Ryder’s grandfather, and my cousin Sue, Becca’s mom.
A few weeks ago I teamed up with my friend Kortni Wright who is starting a flower company in Austin (Color Yellow Co. check her out!) to have a spring themed shoot. What else would we do except make flower crowns… obviously? We also had some pretty fizzy berry soda from my friend Ashley. The girls in the shoot are in my Young Life small group. I love them and they are so stinking beautiful inside and out!
It’s always so fun (and an honor!) to have our work featured on a wedding blog….especially one of our favorites! Check out the Southern Weddings blog here to see our fun Fiesta shoot.
Thank you SW girls for the feature!
It was a beautiful, laid-back day. They had an early ceremony, a casual lunch, and nice afternoon break……and then the party began. The band was rockin’ and the St. Patty’s Day accessories were a hit.
Courtney and Cole, we had a blast documenting your special day, and we are so excited for all your years ahead!
A few words from the bride….
Tell us about finding your wedding dress. My mom, grandmother and I had made a day of shopping for a dress. After trying a few on, I realized I wanted a lace dress. We had several appointments but weren’t having much luck so I called one last place at the end of the day to see if they could squeeze us in last minute. They could, so we rushed over there. We walked in and there it was on the mannequin. I said out loud, “that’s it, that’s my dress.” Both my mom and grandmother were skeptical until I walked out with it on. I tried on some others just to make sure but had to put that dress back on at the end. One day and we were done!
What were some of your favorite details? Floyd as the grooms cake, our cowboy boots, the outside lighting, the cigars.
What was the funniest moment of the day? I don’t think as many people noticed this as I thought at the time, but I had a Kleenex in my hand at the ceremony. When it was time to step up to the altar and say our vows, I tried to slip my kleenex into Cole’s tux pocket as discreetly as possible. Much to my chagrin, his pocket was sewn shut and we did a little back and forth before he took it from me and put it in his pants pocket. What took probably 3 seconds felt like 5 minutes :) Oh and my brothers on the dance floor was pretty hysterical. They were totally into it and having a blast. I laugh every time I think about it.
What was the most memorable moment? There are so many! Getting ready in the morning, the cab ride to the church with my dad, the street fair in La Villita, the first dances, celebrating with all our friends and family. The whole day was memorable :)
